How do oil spills affect plant growth? Hypothesis:I believe the plants watered daily for eight days with 1/4 cup oil and 3/4 cup water will grow well and the plants with 1/2 cup oil and 1/2 cup water will grow but not live very long. I believe that the plants with 3/4 cup oil and 1/4 cup water will die. My control group will grow healthy and the best. Procedure:
I used eight pots and planted ten beans in each pot. The eight pots were divided into four groups. But before the leaves appeared I only watered them. I started to pollute them when the leaves appeared. There are two pots per group. I measured the oil and water in one cup for all of the experiment. The first section is my control group which I only watered. The second section is my 1/4 cup oil and 3/4 cup water. The third section is 1/2 cup oil and 1/2 cup water. The fourth section is 3/4 cup oil and 1/4 cup water. I polluted them for eight days and measured them every day to see if they continued to grow or die.
Conclusion: I hypothesized that the control group would grow best and it did. I also hypothesized that the group with 1/4 cup oil, 3/4 cup water would grow well, but I was incorrect; they died before the eight days of the polluting was over. I did however correctly hypothesize that the other two groups would die within the eight days and they did. I have concluded that I have hypothesized 75% correctly. If I were to do the experiment again I would try different types of plants. Biblical Application:
The hand of the diligent will rule, but the slack will be put to forced labor. Proverbs 12:24 |
