Though youths grow weary and tired, and vigorous young men stumble badly, yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary. Isaiah 40: 30-31

Problem to be Solved:

Which airplane design affects its flight?

Hypothesis:

The longer and thinner an airplane is, the faster and straighter it will go. The shorter and wider an airplane is, the shorter distance and longer in the air it will fly.

Procedure:

Make four carefully chosen paper airplanes of different shapes. Make a launch pad, so that each will be launched identically. Test their flight by observing how far they travel, and measuring the results with a measuring tape. An assistant will be needed for timing the airplane's flight times. Test how long each airplane is in the air by using a stopwatch. Make a logbook of each plane's flight. Test their flights five times and record results in the logbook.

Materials:
Measuring tape
Paper to make the airplanes
Scissors
Stopwatch
Camera
Launcher

Results:
Plane Length (cm) Width (cm) Distance (cm) Time in Air (seconds)
A 27 14 455 0.69
B 17 13 410 0.51
C 10 16 465 0.8
D 23.5 13 565 0.5

Conclusion:

Plane D flew the farthest but plane A was expected to fly the farthest. Plane C stayed in the air the longest because it was the shortest of all the planes and it had the widest wingspan.

Biblical Application:

Though youths grow weary and tired, and vigorous young men stumble badly, yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary. Isaiah 40: 30-31

This verse has to do with my science project because we make airplanes based on the shapes of the birds' wings. God made birds, and we build from God's creation. If we wait for the Lord, He will renew our strength like He renews the strength of the eagle.
